Anyone else have diastasis recti after giving birth

Anyone else have diastasis recti after giving birth?
I just gave birth to my daughter almost 2 weeks ago. My diastasis recti is only slightly worse after this pregnancy than it was with my son. I look about 3-4 months pregnant. And I still have an umbilical hernia. I'm currently living in Italy and I haven't been able to find anyone to tell me where I can go have it all fixed. They just advised me to diet and exercise. Whatever. A few hours after the birth I still looked very pregnant and had many individuals (which included nurses and doctors) ask me if I still had to give birth or if I had another one inside. Needless to say, I felt truly horrible. And I didn't need to feel bad about my body on one of the happiest days of my life. Can anyone relate?? Has anyone had their diastasis recti fixed? Thanks.

Surgery is the only way to fix this. No amount of dieting and exercise is going to get you back to your pre-pregnancy state. Start by asking your OBGYN for a referral to a surgeon. You can ask at your 6 week checkup. I doubt any one would want to operate before 6 weeks post delivery unless it were absolutely necessary. In the mean time try wearing a support band or abdominal binder to try and keep those muscles in place. I am sorry people have been so rude to you- especially doctors and nurses! Some people can be so insensitive without even realizing it. Take it in stride and ignore those people.

Diastasis recti, or abdominal separation, occurs frequently as a result of the combination of pregnancy hormones which soften and lengthen connective tissues, and the mechanical stress that the uterus places on the body's mid line. Every woman's mid line is always a little wider after pregnancy. The goal of diastasis repair is to close the gap to less than two finger-widths. To close abdominal separation, you need to start by building strength back into your deepest abdominal muscle, your Transverse Abdominis, or TvA. This is the body's internal "girdle" and when contracted, compresses the abdomen. After adequate strength has been re-established, then you should perform special postpartum exercises that train the muscle to function as a stabilizer. Depending on the severity of the condition, you may also want to add on manual splinting of the abdominal wall. Until the condition has resolved, usually by 6 months postpartum, do NOT perform any abdominal exercises that lift/roll the upper body off the floor against the force of gravity. NO crunches, sit-ups, roll ups/roll backs, most Pilates mat work, and yoga moves like "boat pose." Every woman's abdomen is extended after childbirth. The comments you received were totally out of line. First steps to moving out. Help

I'm 21, and I'm currently in my first year of Psych. I plan on getting my Master's & more than likely my PhD down the road. I've only got two classes right now; I had to drop the other 3 when I switched from Bio to Psych. I'm not receiving any sort of financial aid -- I'm paying for my education completely by myself. At the end of the school year, I'll be going to Italy to stand in my brother's wedding as his fiancée's bridesmaid. I need quite a lot more money saved up for then. I've never lived on my own, but I am very independent. I don't own a car, but I don't mind taking the bus. My university is in my hometown, but I don't want to live on residence. When I was in Bio, the workload was very intense and I assumed I wouldn't be able to juggle school and a job so I quit my job. Now I'm looking for a new job which shouldn't be too hard to find, but the only flexible, reliable ones seem to be minimum wage ones. I'm looking to get a job at a nursing home that pays $20/h (I DO enjoy the company of elderly people so it's not a problem). Just how flexible can I expect it to be around my school schedule? And is it manageable to live on my own (or with a roommate), paying for school on my own, with a full-time, minimum-wage job? I'm just trying to give you a basic outline of my current lifestyle. What initial steps should I take? Do's and dont's? Pros and cons? Anything will be useful. Thank you!

I lived on my own, went to school full time and worked, all while raising a child on my own as well so it is doable. But it was really really hard, I think it would be easier with a roommate, and also why don't you get financial aid? There are all kinds of programs that can help you, we got food stamps and even found a program that paid our phone bill and part of our electricity bill. So even if you have to take a minimum wage job for the flexibility you should still be able to do it. It will probably be fun. Good luck!

where is the best place to move to

where is the best place to move to?
Me and my husband currently live in england, have no kids (yet) and two dogs. we really want to move country but are finding it hard to decide which is the best place to go! im a nurse and he is a lorry driver so we want a country that has these jobs available to us. We dont speak any other languages fluently unfortunately so i dont know whether this would impact on moving to a country where english is not the predominant language. we like the outdoors, sports, animals, tv, pubs, crafts, sights, nature etc. we dont mind any whether (used to four seasons) but i guess we would like a bit more sunshine! We dislike rude people, cities-too many people. we are wanting to have children one day and our wish is to live a more 'out-door' lifestyle for them as well as us. plus to live in a 'safe' area (i know and understand no-where is completely safe), and not too over crowded. the countries we have been looking at are; Austalia USA Canada New Zealand I also really like Italy but i dont know if not speaking Italian would be too difficult to set up home there. Can you suggest your opinions on these countries and where abouts in these countries? Id actually really consider the US but have no idea which state would be best for me so if anyone out these could suggest a state based on our likes and dislikes then please do so! Thanks!

Brisbane Queensland would be a good option. Most places in Australia need nurses and truck driving is a constant occupation. It has lovely weather too
2 :
I really would suggest staying out of the United States if at all possible. If you can, I would migrate into Australia. It would be the best choice of the ones which you have mentioned. You do not say how old either of you are? This would determine what type of a visa you might be eligible for or whether or not you would be able to migrate.
3 :
To move to an English-speaking country such as Australia, USA, Canada, or New Zealand, you will need to formally migrate. To migrate to Australia can take years and firstly you need to find out if you are actually eligible to migrate here - not everyone is! Have a look at the Australian Government's Immigration website which details everything you need to know about migration, and find out if your work skills are required by the government here. You need to work all this out before deciding where in Australia to live. http://www.immi.gov.au Regarding moving to Italy. As UK citizens you have the right to live and work in Italy, but you need to find out if your nursing skills are transferrable, and not knowing the language will not make things easy for you unless you can get a job in an English-speaking hospital or medical practice, and that would involve living in a city. Might be a good idea to contact the Italian Embassy in London to get more details.
4 :
Hey, there is nothing wrong with living and working in the US! You could easily get a job as a nurse but will have to take and pass the NCLEX exam in order to get a nursing license. Then you apply for a license in the state where you intend to work. You can live in one state and work in another. I guarantee you will get some great experience and will be amazed by the American health care system as it isn't as terrible as what the rest of the world would make it out to be. I live and work in New Zealand and had no problems at all getting a job here as a nurse. The registration process was awful but you would have far fewer problems coming from the UK. And, if you decide to go to either NZ or Australia, your registration is reciprocal - you won't have to go through the whole mess again if you decide to move from one place to another. As far as truck driving jobs - my partner and I live in northland and it has taken over a year to get a decent driving job.(He is a kiwi). More jobs are available closer to the big cities. (Like Auckland).

Romeo and Juliet the opera :) (OPEN!)

Romeo and Juliet the opera :) (OPEN!)?
This is the Romeo and Juliet italian opera made by Riccardo Cocciante and Pasquale Panella, very popular italian composers and musicians. Its debut was in the Arena of VERONA (of course!) and then it toured in the whole of Italy (rome, milan, florence, venice etc etc). The young cast right now is touring in China. Watch these vids and tell me what you think :) VIDEO ONE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8-CVIrDJ… In the first scene there's a fight between the Capulets (dressed in black) and the Montegues (dressed in light brown). The guy with the curly hair is Benvolio (Romeo's friend) and the singer that plays him is Angelo Del Vecchio and is only 15 years old. The other guy is Tebaldo (Juliet's cousin) played by Valerio Di Rocco. The second video is just a small part of a party for Juliet's marriage proposal with a man (that is not Romeo and whom she doesn't want to marry at all). The third video is... well... you can imagine :-) The girl is Juliet, of course and the singer that plays her is Tania Tuccinardi and she's 17 years old, while Romeo is Matteo Vito and he's 16. These scenes are from the opera in the Arena of Verona. SECOND VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdkuHETNP… This is Mercutio singing and the singer is Gian Marco Schiaretti who's 18 years old. In the video you can see pieces of the whole opera. The song tells the story about Romeo and Juliet's love. :-) The guys with the curly hair that you briefly see at the start, sometimes during the video and at the very end of the video is Riccardo Cocciante who created the opera. (ps. you can stop right after the song ends :D) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-J_Q_yEF… <--- this is the same song in another video though! VIDEO THREE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F93Av0WBh… These are the nicest songs in the opera :) The first song is called "Tu sei" (You are) and we've already seen it before, the second one is "Mercuzio, Tebaldo, le spade" (Mercutio, Tebald, the swords) and it's where Mercutio is killed by Tebald. The third song is "Com'è leggera la vita" (How light is life), that Mercutio sings before he dies. The fourth song is sung by Juliet's nurse and the priest who married Romeo and Juliet. VIDEO FOUR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC_Ze1Fs4… This are the most sad parts of the opera. Romeo finds Juliet and thinks she's dead, so he kills himself, then Juliet wakes up and in this opera she dies of pain. (ps. sorry the quality is very bad,..) This is the traduction of the last song that Juliet sings "Il cuore" (the heart) The heart, my heart is breaking, I let it break, the heart breaks, and I let my heart break, the heart dies, and I die with the heart that wants to die, I break with my heart, I'm breaking with my heart,.. Romeo...I die with my heart, Romeo... I die, I die of love, Romeo... and I let it break, the heart, and I let myself break by the heart...the heart, the heart hears me, and I want to follow my heart, my heart follows me... and I'm dying Romeo, with the heart that dies... me and the heart... that dies... Hope you enjoy it :-) and if you want any other song traduction just tell me!

Where/ what is the thesis in this article

Where/ what is the thesis in this article?
Dance-floor dynamo is 65 and stayin' alive Former hippie and member of Perth County Conspiracy calls drug peyote `the catalyst that turned me into a dancer' Aug 14, 2009 04:30 AM NICK AVELING STAFF REPORTER Peter Cheyne puts down his double Scotch and removes his tweed jacket. He bobs toward the dance floor, a sweaty patch of hardwood in Little Italy's Sutra Tiki Bar. And then it begins. He launches into an improvised flurry of spins and kicks, somewhere between the Tasmanian Devil and a 14-year-old gymnast. His surroundings become props: the wall, a chair, a group of girls who are only too happy to join in. Cheyne is the best dancer in the room – likely the best on the entire street. One more thing: he's 65 years old. "I dance for the meditation," says Cheyne, who every so often takes the train from Stratford to strut his stuff in downtown Toronto. "I dance to stay still." He sure fooled his audience. Crystal VanLeeuwen, a 28-year-old nurse, could scarcely believe what she was seeing. "I was definitely surprised. He looked good dancing, and he's having a good time. He loves what he's doing," she said. Born in Scotland, Cheyne's path to sexagenarian dance machine began with a kick in the stomach. He was 9 years old, living at a boarding school outside London, England. "I got in a fight with a pair of identical twins. When I woke up in the hospital three weeks later, the doctors had taken my appendix out," said Cheyne. "During the operation they found out I had tuberculosis in one lung." He spent the next nine months in hospital, followed by a year in a Brighton sanatorium. It was then, said Cheyne, that he chose a future in the arts. "Most of my life I've lived outside the box, and it goes back to those two years I had no basic schooling. I've had to invent myself outside of those kinds of things." Finally, the doctors gave Cheyne's parents a choice. The boy needed clean air. Australia or Canada would do just fine. Cheyne's stepfather (his birth father died in World War II), a budding stage actor by the name of Tony van Bridge, reluctantly settled on Stratford, Ont. Van Bridge went on to become one of Canada's most renowned stage performers. Cheyne, meanwhile, would eventually be introduced to the Perth County Conspiracy – and a drug called peyote. "Peyote was the catalyst that turned me into a dancer," said Cheyne. But that's getting ahead of the story. The '60s had arrived in Stratford, and amidst the flickering candlelight of the Black Swan coffee house, a quiet revolution was underway. A "unique collection of stumbling creative people" – writers, artists, dancers and, above all else, musicians – flocked to Stratford, and by 1969, the Swan had become an unofficial clubhouse for the vanguard of Canada's hippie movement. They started a commune on the outskirts of town, named themselves the Perth County Conspiracy, and got on with the business of changing the world, touring Canada and releasing five records. "It was sort of a Canadian version of the Grateful Dead," said Cheyne. Cheyne found his Conspiracy niche in an alfalfa field. "It was a beautiful, lovely day, and one of the Conspiracy members was playing a tune called `Layers of the Onion.' It was a little cosmic ditty," he said. "All of a sudden there was a huge door in my field of vision with yellow light pouring out of it. I stepped into it and leapt off the planet. "It wasn't an intellectual thing, but I realized there was an avenue of creative expression, and it was going to be mine." Over the next few days, his peyote-fuelled epiphany crystallized: Cheyne would teach himself to dance. He would also teach himself to mime. And that was that. The Black Swan closed in 1975 and the Conspiracy, by then numbering 100 or more, broke apart. But a faithful few remain in Stratford, tied not so much to the Conspiracy itself as to the friendships created therein. Cheyne lives with Harry Finlay, one of the Conspiracy's founders. The pair recently staged a reunion in a Stratford church basement. "It (was) the 19th annual revival – a fundraiser for Shelterlink, an organization that addresses the needs of homeless youth," said Finlay, who describes living with Cheyne as a "delight." Cheyne continues to dabble on the fringes of Toronto's arts scene. And given the crowds that gather when he hits the dance floor, he considers each move an exercise in "guerrilla theatre." He has also found a new passion with which to pay the bills. "Gardening is what brings me great joy right now," Cheyne said. "A little old lady came up to me last week and said, `You're the dancing flower guy!'" he said. "I'm viewed as an eccentric, and I don't mind that at all. It's an accolade."

Just got tested posotive for TB, born outside the USA...now what?
I just left the health division a couple hours ago, my job required me to get a TB Test and that is was something simple and nothing to worry about. 1 out of 2 isn't bad, considering i was tested POSITIVE. Anyways, i was born in Baghdad, Iraq. My parents and I left the country when i was 3 MONTHS old, we went to Italy for another 6 MONTHS. I have been told that i should have received a BCG shot in Iraq but i argue that i was too young to get it (not sure if I'm right or wrong) Well my main thing is... what happens now? i dont have any symptoms of it and my job is a translator (i go to peoples homes with doctors, nurses, and other medical people) Please help, i know this is not a very straightforward question, anything that helps me understand the complexity of the issue more would be great! Thank you.

You need to contact the public health department for further workup, chest xray. There are many forms of TB and it can take years for progression, some people just convert positive but don't have the disease. You need to work with the medical professionals in your area as they know the drugs avail and statistics in your area. If it needs treatment now, you should do it. It is a transmissable disease and if you don't follow through and know your status, you will/can infect those vulerable people you are helping. Additionally, if you have sx or are sick, you can get sicker or another illness if you are compromised. So, take the meds if that's what is needed and be done with it. You can be quarantined against your will, too. Your family should be checked as well as other close relatives. cdc.gov and who.gov for TB information/region \

If you have TB, but no symptoms then you don't have it, but that doesn't mean you are safe from getting it later. Almost like someone having HIV may not get AIDS. TB is very contagious if you have it, it can be transmitted airborne (like flu), so coughing or sneezing. So you have it and it will always be in your system may or may not be active and if you get sick with something else it could activate. You can take heavy doses of antibiotics to cure TB but they can be harmful to kidneys and liver.

You need to be asking your doctor

I would suggest you another option. I'm Italian but lived for some years in Scandinavia. It would be a good match with your needs for several reasons. 1-You are a nurse. In both Norway and Sweden there is a big lack of workers in the health sector. They always look for doctors and nurses from outside their countries. 2-There is no problem for the language. Their knowledge of English is impressive, especially if you compare it to southern Europe. And if you are Native English speaker, learning the local language is quite easy compared, for instance, to Italian. 3-You like outdoors, nature and sports. No better place in Europe for that. 4-You look for a safe area. Both Sweden and Norway are really safe places. When I was in Oslo I often left my car with my photographic bags on the backseat and never had bad surprises. 5-Weather is not great, ok. It's cold (mainly in Norway, since in the South of Sweden, in July and August, you'll still find more than 30°C) and in winter you don't have much light. But the Swedish summer....I have never experienced something so amazing. I really fell in love with their long, fresh and fizzy summer evenings. 6-You don't like overcrowded places. They have a very low population density. 7-You don't like rude people. They are the opposite, very quite and gentle people that generally appreciate lifestyles based on understatement. And they generally like having to deal with people from outside. Especially in Norway: they are really down to earth and their assumption is that they can always learn from foreigners. In Sweden things are a little more complicated. They don't really like so much people from the South of Europe. But they love people from UK.

2 life changing options. What would you choose

2 life changing options. What would you choose?
Lets say you moved to Italy(you're a 18 year old girl), but things are unsure there, your visa is taking forever and you might not be accepted, you live in a house with your aunt, mom, his husband and his brother (both have schizophrenia but the brother is on medication, the husband is perv), there's no heater and it's cool, you have no money (not even for the bus) and you don't eat well(sometimes just one meal a day) and your highschool diploma might not be valid either and have to study a couple of more years... you're given 2 ways: 1. Stay and see if they accept the visa, even thought living in the conditions described above, things might get better after 2 years if your mother gets a job and helps you with getting highschool diploma validated, so you can study in college or... 2. Go to Venezuela(where you were born, even thought the situation is not good there, to make it short my father has bussiness there.) where you have a home(my dad bought at our names), your sister and you will have food and all facilities, study a year course in nurse school, and then move to (probably) Florida with your aunt, my dad can pay college and give me some start money while I get a job and be more independent, Spain is other option aswell. Wich one would you choose and why? Thanks a lot xx

Can someone please translate these phrases into italian

Can someone please translate these phrases into italian?
I am in Italy with my cousin and her family. I've decided to spend my senior year here and attend the local high school. The schools here are so much better than the schools in New Jersey. I’ve decided to go to this school because I want to be a nurse when I grow up. They have specialized high schools for different subjects. ~If you can translate as many of the phrases as you can, it would be greatly appreciated! ~ oh and please dont directly translate it through yahoo babel fish. the words get lost in translation aka it doesn't make sense in the end

I want to be with him; but I know education is important

I want to be with him; but I know education is important?
Hey guys! so im at a crossroads in my life I want to follow my heart over my head, but it's hard anyways Im inlove with my boyfriend of a year and a half. We're perfect for eachother, it's hard to explain, but people always tells us that they can tell we're inlove without us even saying anything. He's in the United States Air Force so He's stationed allover the place. Right now he's in Italy and in February he'll be stationed in New Mexico. I'm so happy about that, he'll be so much closer. He asked me when I graduate from high school this year to move in with him when he's stateside. So I'm going to, I really want to. Now the thing is, I made a terrible mistake last year, I got really depressed. My brother was killed in Afghanistan by a mistake caused by the US Military and so I barely did my school work and I ended up only getting 1 credit instead of 8 [in Canada its 1 credit per course, you need 8 per school year except for grade 12 you can take 6 or 7]. So that pushed me back a year basically. If I was to move in with him, I'll continue my education to get my OSSD [Ontario Secondary School Diploma] through online school. But once I get my diploma, I know university is important. Anyways, After I get my diploma should I go to university wherever he's stationed? We are going to be getting married, but we just want to live with eachother for a couple months you know? What should I do? I would love to be a nurse, but I don't know whether I should or if I should just be a stay at home wife and eventually a mom. What do you think? thanks ella sorry this is so long Merry Christmas :)

Do more for yourself so you won't regret later. If you want to do college, you can check out ones around his duty station and ones offered on base.

I am an Indian Girl and live in India.Let me tell you the importance of being self dependant. In western world where marriages break even if some one snores, it is really important for you to study so that eventually you can earn something for your living.I belong to a very orthodox family but my parents made sure I studied and today when I am a Software Engineer .They are rest assured that even if the guy that they choose for me cheats me or i get divorced i will lead a comfortable life and not dependent on my parents, brother or anyone. So please please study cozzz what you are feeling right now for the guy will not be the same sugar coated after a while..so please study.

go for nursing so you'll always have a way to support yourself. life is unpredictable and you never know where you will end up- its better to be prepared than plan on coasting through life on the dependence of others. getting a "MRS" degree is of the past, and what if you become (and i'm hoping not) a single mom with no education...? isn't that a huge risk, considering you could totally have prevented it all? the fact that you have doubts about this tells me that you're smart. and young. i'm in my 4th year of school pursuing a doctorate. trust me, having my own income and independence is worth the wait!
4 :
i wouldn't tell you not to get married if you're sure that's what you really really want but please continue your education. you can do both ya know........ it's so unsatisfying to be a stay at home wife and mom and dependent on someone else. most marriages end in divorce anyway and then you're screwed if you can't support yourself.
5 :
i can understand your hardship. for one thing i tell all my lady friends to be independant but choose to be dependants. have a fall back plan incase ANYTHING happens. marriages fail all the time, unfortunetly, but if u want to be a nurse u can go to a technical skewl and survive that way. my mother did her skewl nursing threw a "tech" skewl and makes very good money. that will help ur bf/husband-to-be with bills and u can have money to spend of ur own. you should be able to support yourself if ever the time where to come. my gf is in the US Air Force and shes in mississippi while im in California, and its hard but in roughly a year we plan on moving to russia. it will be important to have enough money for emergencies and luxuries. i can do my job (HAZMAT) and she is goin to be stationed there. so i understand your logic. finish high skewl first girl, than do online or walk-in tech skewl and be your bf/h-t-b will appreciate the help. i hope things work out the best for you both. :)
6 :
you are young! first off, you should never aspire to be a stay-at-home mother, especially when you have dreams of being a nurse. don't give up your goals, and self-sufficiency for a guy...it doesn't matter if you love him or not. if he really loves you, he will tell you to finish your schooling. you can even finish while with him; there are online colleges and universities everywhere, so moving to be with him isn't an excuse to quit school.
7 :
Dear Ella, School, school, school! Get your OSSD (or the US equivalent, the GED-- find out which would be easier), and then go to school wherever you're stationed. [I don't encourage your living together first, for a number of reasons-- my faith-based ones, plus statistically, it's shown that it doesn't improve the chances of a marriage working out, and-- and for you this is important-- the US military treats married and single personnel differently. If you are married, then he can automatically live off base (and be paid for it), rather than having a room in the barracks and paying out of pocket for anything else, he will get paid more for having you as a legal dependent, and it may make it much cheaper for you to go to school in the States, since you'll be a foreign national. Many states allow military and their dependents to pay "in-state" tuition, rather than the much higher out-of-state version.] Nursing is the perfect field for a military spouse, because in the current economy nurses are one of the few fields remaining open, and nurses' licenses are normally easily transferable betwen states. You may be able to take classes on the airbase, if you're marrried to him. If not, I would encourage you to look at a Community College program first-- there are a lot of programs that will let you get your LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Professional Nurse, depending on the state) at the two-year school, which will then give you work possibilities to help pay for the last two years of college for your BSN/RN. You don't want to be an RN-- a registered nurse-- without your BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)-- it means that most hospital jobs are dead-end with no chances of promotion, and more and more hospitals won't even look at an RN without her degree. You are young enough that you can get your degree and still have plenty of time to have children-- I've had way too much experience with young women who decided to have the kids first, and ended up putting off the degree for years... and who were very unhappy about that choice. You could easily have your BSN by your mid-20s-- still lots of time to have children, and more financial security, too. Good luck-- I remember the 'friendly fire incident' (there's no such thing as "friendly fire") when the Canadian forces were attacked and killed by the US military, and was horrified and saddened by it. Even more so, now that I've been corresponding with you-- it's become more personal.
8 :
Unless he is E5 or above he will not be allowed to live off base and get housing allowance. Normally it is E5 and higher or E4 with more than 4 years in. If he is E4 they might allow him to do it but it does depend on the command and the amount of room there is in the barracks. If you are go to move to the US from Canada you are allowed to be there for 6 months without a problem, but after that you are considered illegal alien. In order to get a Green Card/Alien Resident Card you need to either be married and he is your sponsor or have a job and the company is your sponsor. Even then it is a Conditional card and only lasts for 2 years. After that you have to file for Permanent Residency. Right now the amount to start the paperwork to get one is around $1200 US, you will have to do a medical screening (including a TB xray), interviews, etc... You will also have to declare yourself a Non resident of Canada. Meaning you no longer pay taxes, you no longer qualify for medical, dental, you cannot stay in school, etc.. The only thing you keep is your citizenship and your passport. The only way around this would be if you had a scholarship to a college down there. The military will not help you in any way do the paperwork, find a college, etc... You are on your own especially if you are not married. You will also have limited base access. If you are married the military will still not pay for your college, you can use the colleges on base but you will still have to pay for it and they can be expensive. To be honest it is cheaper to go to college in Canada than it is in the US. So if anything you should be considering staying in Canada and at least get some of the courses out of the way and see if they will transfer. The education system for nurses in the US is different than in Canada. You will also have to find out if the colleges in the US will accept the OSSD or not. Some may not. If this relationship is going to work then he would be understanding in this situation. You need to seriously think about what is best for you education wise if for some reason this relationship doesn't work out. I would hate for you to move all the way down there and you find out it will not work.

hey girl..first off all sorry about your brother<3 Do as much as you can now!! I did 2 years of college and got my associates and moved in with my Marine. i got a good job to help us pay bills which was def a good move. if i didnt have this degree under my belt i wouldnt have gotten this job and things might be a lot harder for us right now. I took online classes for a while just to keep myself into school and have something to keep focused on since i was so far away from my family! we havent been relocated yet and its been a few years so i started nursing school here where he is stationed. the most important thing to do is go to an accredited school so if you do have to pick up and move you can most likely transfer your credits to another accredited school somewhere else. a lot of places are pretty understanding about it too. anyway what im trying to say is go to school now!! it would be great to be a stay at home mom and stuff but if you decide you want a career of your own, you dont wana have to go back after being out of school for 10 years you know? ok sorry this is so long lol email me if you wana talk about it more! good luck!

Why are Americans so opposed to socialized/single-payer healthcare

Why are Americans so opposed to socialized/single-payer healthcare?
You don't have to read all of this below... but it's some background so you can know where the question comes from: I've been a nurse at multiple institutions in the U.S., including the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, and I can honestly say that most people do not get what they pay for, and many healthcare professionals are both overpaid and overworked, which leads to poor quality, expensive healthcare experiences for many patients. I've been shopping around for countries to move to, because my own healthcare is becoming too expensive (I have chronic cerebral vasculitis and an AVM, requiring several brain surgeries and am in the process of filing for bankruptcy for in excess of $100K that my private health insurance plan will not pay), and I need care, but if I stay in the U.S., I am going to have to file for disability and live off the government in order to get my care. My two jobs do not provide me with healthcare benefits, and I have reached my $750K lifetime maximum, and will never be able to get private health insurance again - unless it is associated with a group healthcare plan with a full time job. My health is brittle enough that I'm predominantly only able to do per diem work. I need the flexibility to sit out from work for a few weeks if I have a bout with seizures. Though per diem work pays quite well, it's rare that it includes healthcare benefits. I've spent a great deal of time in Canada, the U.K., France and Italy, and they all have really phenomenal healthcare systems that are available to people regardless of their ability to afford or even find private health insurance. Many people who would otherwise not be able to work, because they need to be made impoverished to be covered by the government in the U.S., are able to work in these other countries. The current U.S. system seems to encourage capable workers to file for disability and "live off the government," because you have to be very poor in order to get government assistance for medical bills here. Why do people support this? I don't want to be forced out of work. I'm fully capable of working, but just under unusual conditions. Why not just set up a system where healthcare is covered by the government just like education, police, firefighters, military defense and tons of other services that people don't balk about having to pay taxes for? Michael I: I am both a patient with a chronic illness and a nurse. I have spent months at a time in Canada, France, the U.K. and Italy. They have superior healthcare systems. I worked at the Mayo Clinic. I watched foreigners come over and die, because they thought they would get superior care here. I speak from experience. I think for myself. Your condescension is noted, and not appreciated. I ask a question in genuine curiosity, not hostility. Please treat me with respect, and I will grant you the same. 8***L: So what if there are still private systems for people who can afford it? People who want to pay tons of money for FedEx, UPS and DHL have those options as well. What makes you think other systems are terrible? Why are Italy and France ranked number 1 and 2 by the WHO for their healthcare systems. Why is the U.S. between Costa Rica and Slovenia, at 37? Why is the U.S.'s infant mortality rate so high? Why is it that me, a capable worker, is being forced to file for disability, because no job will have me with my chronic illness which requires me to have weeks off at a time? If I work, I make too much to get Medicaid. So now I have to file for bankruptcy to get my unpaid medical bills discharged, and disability to get future bills managed. 3rd Party 2008: As I said, I am looking for other places to live. I don't think that prohibits me from asking the question, though. It's still a "mostly" free country. If I only had $900 to pay for shots, then that would be great. I pay for my $300/mo meds no problem. It's the $100K leftover from brain surgeries I've had in the past 4 years that I can't cover, and now have to file for bankruptcy to manage. asmith1022_2006: On the contrary, the Canadian and U.K. systems do exactly what they set out to do - give citizens access to adequate healthcare regardless of their ability to pay, and without their having to file for bankruptcy or go into debt to get their basic healthcare needs met. I call that a good system. I'm always amazed at how many Americans assume that socialized healthcare systems are horrible, but have absolutely no evidence to back that up. Paki88: You are a very wise 15 year old. I hope you use those smarts and that insight to change the world for the better. Sorry we've left it such a nasty place for you and your generation. We've been most irresponsible. Kimberly G: I completely empathize with you. Part of me is a little smug that because I have no other option, the option I have to take is actually forcing everyone to pay for my healthcare. People tell me they don't want to pay for my healthcare. Guess what... you all are. My bankruptcy means that the hospital didn't get paid for their services, so they have to raise the price of services to the rest of you, which will cause insurance companies to raise the price of coverage. Then my need to file for disability means that your tax dollars are going to go to my daily living expenses *and* my healthcare. In this system, you'll pay for me one way or another. I just think that this way means you pay more, and is worse for everyone.

Because I was also against the bail out of wall street. I don't want the same people that brought me the collapse of the financial markets over my health care. that's why? You ever been to a VA hospital? Not to be rude, because I have my own problems. My shots are $900 a piece. I just don't think my neighbor should pay for them. If health care is so great in other countries why are you here? "Canada, the U.K., France and Italy, and they all have really phenomenal healthcare systems that are available to people regardless of their ability to afford or even find private health insurance." Try one of these countries!
2 :
Because my father didn't immigrate from europe so that we can replicate failed socialist policies. BTW, you might want to think for yourself for a change and realize that the US health care system is pretty damn good. Why do you think so many foreigners come here to seek medical attention? The US also has the world's highest cancer survival rates. I would give you links to this, but I'm sure you have more important things to do than verifying facts---like watching Oprah and looking at your People magazine.
3 :
We have socialized single-payer mail delivery, and it sucks.
4 :
That's a great question.
5 :
We'll still have private hospitals for the celebrities, politicians, and wealthy people - the rest of the sheep will get the crumbs left over. There are many other ways of making health care cheaper, without nationalizing it - IF you have a job and are willing to work. Other countries systems are terrible, and I would not like to see that here.
6 :
Because socialized health care will lead to a decline in quality, poor availability of choice, and a lack of incentive for citizens. Not to mention there is no way we could afford it if we wanted to, seeing as we can't pay for the entitlements we have. But look at the examples of the British, and Canadian systems, they are terrible.
7 :
You can thank Nixon for your situation, he was the one that changed the health care system that started the process of destroying our health care system. As far as health care now, i am uncertain that we'll have universal health care in the 4-8 years that Obama is in office, but he would certainly make it plausible in 10 years. McCain would privatize health care, and i will just say i am also uncertain with his plan as well. People do not understand the complex underpinnings of current gov. health coverage. Many republicans only see people on welfare as those who are lazy and are being "enabled". its much easier to oppose when you can say lazy people are getting welfare and not people who have chronic cerebral vasculitis and an AVM. You have picked a really bad era also to bring up socializing health care because people are so ignorant and fearful of everything (Bush,9-11, etc) they don't know what to think. Why would the government want to pick up our health bill when we are making billions on obesity and smoking related illnesses from sick people? ..I'll vote Obama so you can get that health care you so obviously deserve and need. I think these answers previous to me are wonderful examples of the fear and ignorance i was talking about. You are slapping these guys around with counterpoints they can't even start to handle because they are just a bunch of ignorant fear mongers. I don't see any other edits....
8 :
Police and firefighters are employed at the state and city level. The education that is government funded is terrible. Honestly, I have no faith that the government is going to make it any better for you. They don't do anything besides screw up. France and englands health care isn't all that it's cracked up to be either. I have a buddy in France I play CS with that complains about the healthcare in France all the time. England has a shortage of doctors, and you want to talk about under payed, check out the NHS pay scales most doctors in the U.S. make much more. Examples, Canada uses the United States as a safety valve for its overtaxed health care system, with provincial governments and patients spending a combined total of more than $1 billion a year on U.S. medical care. To reduce its waiting lists, the British National Health Service (NHS) recently announced the decision to treat some NHS patients in private hospitals, reversing alongstanding policy of only using public (NHS) hospitals. Over 7 million people in Britain now have private health insurance, and since the Labor government’s first year in office, the number of patients paying out-of-pocket or medical treatment has increased 40 percent to 160,000 annually. The list goes on. The following report examines the evidence concerning national health insurance. I suggest you read it and take an empirical approach to what will be the best option for you given your condition. Our system isn't perfect, far from it in fact... but the idea that government is going to fix your problems is a bit overconfident. Here is the link. http://www.debate-central.org/topics/2002/book2.pdf
9 :
The most common reason that people give for opposing a single-payer plan is that it would lead to rationing of health care because of the expense. Personally, I find this odd, considering the fact that our health care "system" is already the most expensive in the world and is being rationed by insurance companies. Another argument is that the government is too dysfunctional to manage a system of this size. They see the poor quality of the VA system and believe that is what it would look like. But, the people are the government. We should be able to handle this. I refuse to believe that other countries are more capable that we are. And then there are those who simply say they don't want to pay for someone else's health care. They don't seem to realize that we're already paying every-time someone is forced to declare bankruptcy due to an illness that insurance refused to cover.
10 :
The cost of course. Canada spends over $4,000 per person on their single payer system. Great Britain spends over $3,300 per person. So a little over a trillion dollars a year, to do that in the US. Not counting the start up cost, since the US doesn't actually have its own medical facilities and would have to either buy or lease the medical clinics and hospitals. When US tax revenue from corporate and individual income tax's is only 1.5 trillion. Just how will they come up with the trillion dollars to fund national health care ? We would need 66% more tax revenue, than we currently receive.
11 :
I agree with you 100%, Even though I'm 15 I can see what a horrible Health Care system this country has and how the corrupt insurance companies don't cover anything, they bail when you get that 100k Surgery. Money isn't a problem either, how did we get that extra 2 trillion $$ for the war? If we can spend that much on the war then we can defiantly afford health care. America needs to wake up, why are we always the last ones to incorperate action, Europe is much smarter than us, they have been around longer than us, they abolished slavery first while we thought it was absurd, now look at us, we make more money than any other nation on Earth yet we can't get free health care, this is such BS. Also these idiots who oppose it, have no evidence to back themselves up, they just hate it, because it has the word socialist in it. This is why Other countries in the world think of us as "stupid americans".
12 :
Because I see what the government does with the health care they handle now and it's not good. I watched my mom's boyfriend get his tooth pulled by a sadistic nurse with no pain relief in a va hospital. I watch my best friend become a cripple because the government can't take care of the men and women that serve this country. He will be in a wheelchair in another 2-3 years because the government denied him treatment until it was too late. That and I pay for my insurance and I work at a crappy job to pay for it but it at least takes care of my families insurance needs and honestly I don't want to pay for someone else's insurance knowing that nobody will help me. Would I like more affordable health insurance? Yes. Will Obama provide it? No. The only way it will get better is if we regulate the insurance companies and stop them from constantly raising their rates. rachelesse I understand where you're coming from. You have a health issue that is causing issues with work and life and it is hard to pay for your medical bills. My mom worked for a company for 10 years who did nothing but treat her like cheap slave labor and she did it to put food on the table. My sister and I finally talked her into quitting her job because we found out the job was killing her. She has perminant back damage and she is having so much trouble finding a job. We're talking to a lawyer about disability from her previous employer and to see about full disability for her but the government will not help. I do believe that we should help those that need the help and regulating the insurance companies is one way to start. They are blood sucking leeches that will stop at nothing to suck us dry. What I oppose is the lazy majority out there not willing to work or if they are willing to work they are not willing to pay the extra money for health insurance so they expect the government to take care of them. I don't trust the government healthcare system because they do not have our best interest at heart. My son was on state medicare for a year before I found the job I have right now. The doctors were never willing to treat him for his ear infections they would say nothing was wrong only to find out he had a serious ear infection. Then they wanted to put tubes in his ears. His new doctor that I took him to after I got insurance diagnosed that drainage from his allergies was causing the ear infections, she put him on some allergy medication and he hasn't had an ear infection in over 2 years.

The problem is most Americans are cement headed and just it comes to plain stupidity because they have never had this system. Americans believe that they will be paying for someone else's medical bills and it's going to cost them more money blah blah blah. It's 100% complete BS, you'd know that living overseas. Americans don't realise , all the money they give yearly on medical insurance, 'can' if they choose, to stay in there wallets and give them an extra $30 plus to whatever they pay a week they pay a week out of there weekly income. Rather than giving it away to an insurance company who can knock back treatment or add a extra expense they don't cover or loose all the money they paid out on insurance if they loose or change jobs etc. In reality how many times in a year does the average person go see a doctor or requires medical treatment a year. Most people don't or they may see a doctor maybe once or twice a year, which they all pay annually thousands of dollars a year for a fifteen minute consultation for a script of antibiotics. I left the US and live overseas, almost all countries in the world have Universal Health Care systems, including the one I live in. Australia it costs nothing to see a doctor and you pay only four dollars and sixty cents for a script. During this winter I developed double Pneumonia, I seen a doctor had a chest x ray and blood test , all it cost me was four dollars sixty cents for the course of anti biotic nothing else. Also I had full lazer treatment to remove a benign mole and follow up treatment to see if spread it cost me nothing. In the US that treatment would have cost me thousands of dollars in expenses as it is not covered by insurance. The Universal medical health care umbrella covers everyone and you can still have your own private health insurance if you choose too. Here in Australia if you have ever have to pay out anything on medical expenses, you get 85% of your money back through medicare or you can bulk bill treatment and get it for free. We don't pay extra taxes for this, or have to wait for medical treatment or have added expenses or ever knocked back by having a pre existing illness. If you become ill or injured you don't have the stress or worry on top of getting money together for any treatment. Same if you loose your job and loose your medical insurance, you still get full medical treatment. There are no such thing's as a government doctor or only getting the treatment an insurance company allows, you always get full first class medical treatment for the whole family and yourself. You can see your family doctor, specialist, psychiatrist of your choice for free. Free hospital stays, or if you have a baby etc etc need blood or X ray test MRI scans, ultra sounds, follow up treatment, asthma tests or oxygen plasters, injections, operations , mammograms, bone scans, cancer treatment, hip replacement, physo or dental, optical etc ,etc, etc all 100% free. You even get a free pair of presciption glasses or dentures every year if you need them. When you do your annual taxation claim you are personally asked if you required any medical treatment during the taxation period, if no you don't pay any taxes, if you did more than seeing a GP, about twenty dollars is charge on low and up to sixty dollars plus per year for high wage earners who can afford insurance. For a lousy $ 20 to $60 dollars a year taken from your tax return is nothing to have you and your whole family covered for a year is nothing when most Americans have to mortgage there house for the same treatment. If your not working or on disability you don't pay a cent. You pay more to a tax advisor to do your yearly taxes than you pay for yearly health care for you and your whole family. The other silly question is the money must come from some where, well your weekly taxes, the government reeps also state taxes on each item you purchase goes towards it. The government just paid out seven hundred billion dollars of US tax dollar plus to wall street which should of be used on the public education and health system not bailing out richie rich. This reserve could have financed these systems where the US public would get benefits and money worth by the taxes they pay yearly. Which makes this system fair for all Americans not just the privileged or only the destitute but for every American.

take warm water stir and add salt until it wont dissolve. garlge with it as long as you can. then spit and repeat. the salt has a way of drying out the throat making it harder for infections to survive. essentially listerine does the same thing it kills the infection that causes the soreness. do this as often as you can an it should clear up. also you can go to a pharmacy and get some chloraseptic its like sore throat spray.

You can try some of the popular remedies at the article below.

If you could travel anywhere or take a semester in a college in any place

If you could travel anywhere or take a semester in a college in any place?
where would you travel to and why? I am thinking of taking a semester to a different college in maybe Australia, Italy, Europe or Malta. I have been checking those places out for good colleges since i want to become a nurse/medical field. anyways, have you been to any of these places? what did you think? did you go alone? which specific areas did you go and you loved? what were places you went and you felt unsafe, to stay away from? what some things did you do when you visited the countries? any fun tourist areas where the people are nice enough to show you around? Thanks for any advice! theres bugs wherever you go! im gonna keep thinking about it lol

If you like clean mountains and clear water, Switzerland. Poland is nice with cities beaches and mountains. Spain is beautiful. Italy is not bad. If you go australia you can visit New Zealand china figi. Personally, I love British Columbia in Canada.
2 :
i would just want to travel. i would love to be able to travel the world someday
3 :
I would want to go to S. Korea, I just love how different the language is and how amazing the culture is. I think that out of the few that you've said, Italy would be the most interesting to me. I know that from what I've seen of the country it looks very pretty and mostly the people don't look like they're just going to judge you because you might have some kind of trouble with the language. I don't know about Australia, ick spiders and creepy crawlies everywhere :O

Turkey is great place to travel. Why? Pleas check below link. http://www.squidoo.com/PlacesAtTravelTurkey

I would like to visit one of the countries around Iguazu Falls. I've been living in Italy for the last 11 years and still have a home in Colorado. I've been fortunate enough over the years to have had the opportunity to explore most of Europe, North America and the Caribbean, but have not been to South America. Waterfalls are fascinating and Iguazu looks spectacular from the pictures, so I'd like to go and see it some day. There are a number of excellent schools here in Italy and a lot of international students who love it here. You might look into the University of Bologna.

Italian is very much like Spanish, and I take Spanish, which is fairly easy. My Uncle is learning Italian, and by the looks of it it doesn't seem too hard. Good luck. :)
2 :
i dunno about that but i gotta say, i love the italian accent when speaking english, they remind me of the godfather or the sopranos
3 :
i find it pretty easy but again it is very similar to spanish and spanish is my second language.
4 :
In my experience, Italian is easy to get the basics of (basic grammar, vocabulary, etc), but difficult to master. With just a few months of studying, you should be able to communicate with Italians, in terms of asking simple questions, but it will take a long time to master the subtleties of the language. I don't know any Polish or German, but I know that Italian uses several tenses that English doesn't have. Though, they say the more languages you know, the easier it is to pick up a new one :-) GOOD LUCK!
5 :
The Italian language is without any doubt one of the most beautiful languages, a language that seems to capture the extraordinary essence and spirit of Italy. Learn Italian and you will find your time in Italy so much more enjoyable. Italians really appreciate foreigners making an effort to speak Italian, no matter how poor the attempt, you will find Italians will encourage you. How to Start Learning Italian? Learning Italian is easy. I spoke very little Italian on arrival in Italy. All you need to do is a software language course - I did the Rosetta one but there are now far better and cheaper courses. I followed up the Italian software course with a course at the Dante Alighieri School, and I am now completely fluent. I can assure you I am far from a genius so if I can do it anyone can.

Could you check my paper for spelling or grammar mistakes

Could you check my paper for spelling or grammar mistakes?
Translation 4 Our neighbours have changed their minds and are going to Spain instead of going to Italy on their holiday. We should hope that they don't go forever. Don't sign the contract without looking at it. This morning I missed the bus and had to wait for the next one, which didn't come on time. The building cought fire but the firemen managed to put out the fire. I advice you to learn the poem by heart. Suddently the lights turned off, but the spokesman kept on speaking everyone there to much surprise. One of the students passed out when he saw the nurse. Atleast a half an hour past before he gained consciense again. Never suspend anything to morning if you can do it today. It would have been best for you to tell the truth right away. I have said it to him again and again, but he never seems to remember anything. His aunt inherited him with alot of money. Did you lend the woman in the next house your sewing machinge? All resolution must be returned in the end of the test. The acident is on some level his fault. I don't recall having heard this before.

5) The building caught fire, but the firemen managed to put out the fire 6) I advise you to learn the poem by heart 7) switch the wording around on this one.. try: Suddenly the lights turned off, but surprisingly, the spokesman continued to speak to everyone there 9) At least a half an hour passed before he gained consciousness again 13) He inherited a lot of money from his aunt 14) Did you lend the woman in the next house your sewing machine? 15 seems to be worded very wrong.. im not sure what you're trying to say 17) The accident is, on some level, his fault OR The accident is on some level, his fault
2 :
Well, you don't have any quotation marks around what people are actually saying. Also "his aunt inherited him with a lot of money" sounds weird. (ps, a lot is 2 words, not 1)

Internal bleeding help

Internal bleeding help?
I just moved back to Italy to be with family. We live in a tiny village far from everything else, dominated by my relatives. There is no running doctor office and the nearest hospital is hours away, even with an ambulance. No one owns a car around here. I have blood in my semen and urine. My mom is a retired nurse and concluded that from the large quantity of blood in my pee it is internal bleeding in my kidneys. It will take 2.5 hours at least to get to the hospital in an ambulance, not including the time it would take to get over here. Is there anything I can do to help myself here at home? Is there any way for me to get help for this?

You NEED medical attention. In the meantime drink loads of water.
2 :
first of all, you just wash the part of the body that is bleeding. then cover it tightly with a cloth. that should stop the bleeding for now, but that doesn't mean it's going to cover it forever, so get to a hospital as fast as possible.

What's going on with this "relief" effort in Haiti

What's going on with this "relief" effort in Haiti?
Help me out here, folks......I live in Italy, but am an American citizen.......Italian TV news is a bit beyond my comprehension...and I don't think CNN is giving the us "straight skinny" OK.....I hear a lot about $10 million here....."rapid response" there.....outpourings of relief from the U.S....China.....etc. etc... THEN.....CNN pops up and it's the "Dr. Sanjay Gupta Show" complete with clips of him performing battlefield neurological evaluations on babies and so on......people needing surgery and being turned away.....while a hippy upper middle class American tourist gets private jet evacuation to the 'States... For all the rhetoric and back-slapping, there seems to be very little hard relief..... Where are the U.S. Hospital ships? Where are the heavy duty helicopters? Where is the emergency infusion of battlefield hospitals and doctors and nurses and antisepetics and surgical rooms that the U.S. is capable of providing? It's going on 2 weeks!! Haiti is not on the other side of the world! What gives? Sorry Ratz, I got my times screwed up...it "seems" like 2 weeks........however, is the main airport in Haiti operational? Have they airlifted in a few hundred Marines for security?......I can appreciate the " bottleneck" phenomenon, but that's what battlefield commanders are responsible for........or are they all preroccupied with the Middle East?

The earthquake happened Jan 12th, so no it hasn't been going on 2 weeks. All of those supplies are there, or have been sent, but there is a bottleneck. There are no roads, no infrastructure, no government, no command on the ground organizing everything. It's been hard to get stuff to the actual people. They dropped food from helicopters but they caused riots.
2 :
All the Haitians are being evacuated to America and other parts of the world as its no longer habitable but of course if they die while they are waiting then thats just too bad. I heard there was room in this place in Louisiana - name escapes me for the minute - something about Katrina - no it escapes me. I hope that updates you.
3 :
air port is full no control tower, no radar roads blocked ports destroyed ships Travel very slowly in short no land water or air Access to bring every thing in quickly
4 :
The news reports that I am hearing is that there is an immense stockpile of emergency relief supplies at the airport and a steady flow of it still arriving but delivery of the emergency relief supplies to the quake survivors is just flowing at a trickle. It's my understanding that they are waiting for ground troops to arrive and set up and secure distribution sites.
5 :
Because there is no magic wand that can be waved and everything made better. Before you can distrubute the relief supplies you have to clear the roads. Before you can start clearing the roads you have to repair the airfield. Before you can repair the airfield you have to get your equipment and repair personnel there. Anything too heavy to be moved by air (bulk supplies and fuel, heavy construction equipment, heavy trucks etc) has to wait for the port facilities to be repaired. The ironic thing here is that I was one of the initial responders to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I was working in the operations section of a joint task force whose mission was to help coordinate relief efforts. When we hit the ground we did the math and immedeatly realized that there was very little we could do to help people in the first few days. The only usable highway was choked with refugee traffic and our only 'usable' airfield had no working air traffic control equipment, no electricity and no usable fuel. We had aircraft blowing tires on landing because of debris on the runway. The first thing we had to do was clear the runways. Then we had to fly in the equipment to unload the aircraft. Then we had to fly in the people and equipment to process the supplies after they were unloades. Then we had to fly in fuel. Then we had to fly in trucks. And only then could we even think of moving relief supplies to people. And the worst thing about all of this was - we did the math and discovered that there was no way we could move the necessary tonnage of relief supplies to the people who neede them in time. .
