Nursing homes?
I do feel a little depressed when I visit the nursing home because I know that i might end up there one day. My mother-in-law is in a nursing home and it is the cleanest place I have ever seen. (so if I ended up there when I am 80 I would feel lucky).When one of the patients asks a question the attendants, nurses, directors take the time to answer them. In fact, I was talking to the director and a patient asked a question and the director said "excuse me one second". I have seen the care and love given to these patients. The reason people get a bit depressed when they visit a nursing home is because they either realize that they may one day end up there OR they think they are going to stay young forever. My mother-in-law is in a nursing home in Italy. (she is Italian) We are so fortunate to have found such a wonderful loving group of caregivers for her. Also think about it! People in nursing homes are fortunate because someone is paying for that care and it is not cheap. Actually, I am new at this and I really wanted to answer a question that someone asked "do you get depressed when you go to a nursing home". sorry about that. I am learning. There are cases where loved ones cannot be taken care of at home and we must find a place for our loved one. Honest, we found a great place that is loving and caring.

I don't know what the question is. I have been to many nursing homes in my home town and it's not pretty. People there do not get the care that you are talking about. Once I went to a nursing home and the staff was feeding the clients. When one client ask for salt the staff went off on them. I called the director and reported them. I personal do not want to be put away in a nursing home to die.

Sometimes you have no choice but to put a loved one in a nursing home to keep them safe a you can no longer do it at home. They need you to visit them often to be sure they are taken care of properly. I visit my mom almost every day and at different times of the day. I can no longer help with the lifting of her, that is why she is there. She cannot talk clear anymore and no longer finds the words she want to convey to you. I hated to have to put her in but the home health care recommended it as she was falling every day at home and we were afraid she would eventually break a bone. Also some residents get no visitors so I talk to all the ones I see in the halls and help wheel them to where they are trying to get to. The important thing is to search and find the best one in your area. Good for you for visiting your mother-in-law, she needs your visits.
