I am in the process of becomming an Italian citizen via my father's birth. If I retire in Italy, I may need a nursing home in the distant future. Would my stay be covered under the Universal Health care system ?

That really just depends on the provider or insurance care you have.I would call and ask them.I think you will have to sign up in Italy or do a transfer to European care system.Good luck
