I am confused on which major to choose to get into medical school?
I am in my first year of college my major right now is nursing. I decided I much rather go to med school to be a pediatrician. I don't know if i want to major in Biology and minor in italian (I want to move to Italy in the future and I am interested in the language) or major in Psychology and minor in italian. Which would be a better major. I am interested in both biology and psychology, but don't know which one to choose. Any advice? any tips to get into med school. Thank you in advance

In all honesty, you can really do both majors as long as you fulfill the medical school admissions requirements. The Biology major will cover most, if not all of these subjects, while the Psychology major you will have to take the extra classes (ie: extra chemistry, physics, genetics, etc). Psychology would be good, however, if you are interested in becoming a psychiatrist. If not, I would choose Biology.

Biology would be better. Most medical schools view psychology as a joke and an easy major. Plus, you will have to take a lot of classes to fit the medical school requirements, and if you want to minor in something else, it would be a lot easier to major in Biology, not major in Psych, complete pre med requirements, and finish an Italian minor.

Well, to be politically correct, admission committees do not think a Psychology Major is a joke. It's just that Psych is known as being the least academically challenging Major one can pursue. You can be accepted with a Psych Major, but your GPAs (especially in the pre-req courses) are going to need to be high to demonstrate that you can manage the more rigorous courses in medical school. Many primary care oriented schools are now advising applicants to only take the pre-req courses and pursue other Majors that interest them. Too often, undergrad advisers are still recommending potential medical students to obtain an undergrad degree in one of the life sciences, but it isn't the preference of the primary oriented medical schools. The pre-req courses and the MCAT are the key indicators of how well a student will do in medical school, so they'd like to see you be more well rounded with diverse interests. The first layer of the reasoning behind this is that "Geeks" historically don't have good interpersonal relationships with patients. But the real reason is always money--patients don't sue doctors they like and if the doctor can establish a rapport with the patient, the outcomes are usually better.

Are Italian Horns just for Italians?
Becuse I was reading it reads "In Italy and Europe as well, the evil eye superstition was given much importance. It was believed that jealousy alone could cause you harm. The evil eye was particularly influential against the fertility and sexual powers of both men and women, child bearing and nursing women, fruit producing trees and harvest producing fields as well as many milking animals. The ancient people went to great lengths to guard them selves against evils and to find good luck." My nationalitys are from greater parts of europe and i see as it is metioned evil supersition were in europe as well. Am i able to wear one? is it for europeans as well?

I want to travel but how
I want to travel but how?
I keep hearing about all the cool places my friends have gotten to go: Italy, Australia, Africa, and it just makes me sad that I'll never have that kind of opportunity. I'm too far into my studies to be an exchange student, and I don't think they do that for nursing students anyway. I feel like I've missed my chance to travel. Once I'm out of college, I'll be working non-stop to try and pay off my student loans. Once I get married/have a family I can't be traveling then. Should I just forget about it, or do you think there's some way it could work?

After you pay off your student loans, you could wait a few years and travel before you settle down.

First- of course you can travel when you get married! Ever heard of a honeymoon? Plus with two incomes you have more travelling options. My husband and I travel at least once a year and we are far from millionaires. It also helps because we know more people around the world that way. Second, you will be working a lot, but everyone gets vacation time on their job. I'd say just make it your priority- above buying a cool car, a new TV, etc., just put that money away for a trip. And keep looking out for cheap flights, last minute deals, etc. Happy travelling...

I really do think that there is a way to make it work. Why not try a trip over your spring break or over the summer. I know that EF CollegeBreak has some good deals for college students, its an 18-26 thing) Maybe you should check that out to see it it works for you. They also have a discount code too, its hesseln1188 and it gets you $50 off. Or try STA travel, sine ive seen that they do have good flights deals. I think sometimes you have to just pencil it in, and make opportunities for yourself to go. But life does not end after college, like the person above me said, you can just go on family vacations and so on. Really, its nice to travel while your young, but you can do it later too. Good luck.
